DIY Glass Cleaner

I used to always get streaks all over my windows and mirrors whenever I would clean them. I don’t know if it’s from the commercially made cleaner or the paper towels I use or both, but if you experience streaks as much as I did, I have a solution that will totally solve the glass cleaner problem!

DIY: Glass Cleaner

What you need:

  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Newspaper

How you do it:

1. Mix vinegar and water in a half and half ratio.

2. Spray onto surface and wipe with the newspaper (The black and while part)

So, I know that newspaper might sound a bit strange to use for cleaning glass surfaces. In fact, I was kind of skeptical when I first heard about it, but it really is probably the best thing you can use when you’re cleaning your windows and mirrors! It doesn’t leave the little fuzzies that paper towels, hand towels or rags tend to leave behind and, as I mentioned earlier, you’ll get a streak-free shine!

I wasn’t sure how using newspaper would work, and it doesn’t seem to be as absorbent as paper towels, but I just use a couple of pieces. I used one of the pages torn in half, which gave me something smaller to work with. Try and stick to using just the black and white sections of the paper. The colored glossy part does not work as well and the color can come off.

And, the best part about this is that it’s completely economical. I would venture to say most of us have vinegar and newspapers at home – I mean, we are couponers! No more paying for glass cleaner, which can be a little pricey, even WITH coupons these days! And, you don’t have chemicals around your house, which is something I am always concerned about with a little one around. It’s just vinegar and water!

Thanks for the reminder. I’ll go back to my mother’s suggestion of newspaper.

    1. I was the same way Kathleen. Used newspaper growing up and then switched to paper towels. But I too kept having streaks and went back to the newspaper and it has been doing great!
