Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe

One of the great things about making your own taco seasoning mix is you can control how much salt was added. You can also control how spicy it is. If you like things on the milder side this recipe should be good as is.

However, if you like things hotter, feel free to add some extra cayenne and red pepper.

This seasoning mix makes enough to make one batch of taco meat. You can make more if you would like and store it in an airtight container to have it ready to use when it is needed.

If you like this easy recipe, here are a few others to check out.

How Should The Seasoning Be Stored?

When working with herbs and spices it is best to store them as air-tight as you can. Doing this will help the flavors and aroma last longer.

One of the best ways I like to store my homemade mixes is to reuse another empty glass spice jar. These plastic ones do not keep the spices as fresh.

If you don’t have any empty glass jars you can buy empty ones.

Another great option is the glass jars with the lock tops and rubber ring.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Black Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Corn Starch
  • Chili Powder
  • Cumin
  • Salt
  • Oregano
  • Brown Sugar (optional)
  • Cayenne (optional for more heat)
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

How To Make This Seasoning:

In a medium mixing bowl, mix all ingredients together using a fork or whisk. Make sure it is fully blended.

Store in a dry airtight glass container or spice jar until you are ready to use.

When you are ready to make tacos you dump all in with 1/2 cup water and 1-2 lb browned and drained ground meat.

Let cook for a few minutes until the water cooks down.

If you want you can double or triple the recipe and store it. Then just use it as needed. That will save you the trouble of mixing it up each time.
