How To Make A TP Yarn Pumpkin

The great thing about this project is you probably have everything needed to make it other than the yarn. We use a roll of toilet paper as the base.

But it is not wasted, if you need that roll, simply unwrap the yarn pumpkin and it can still be used.

We made our pumpkin in an off white, but it could be made in any color you wanted. While any yarn, twine or string can be used, I found the best look and result using a mega bulky yarn.

If you are looking for other easy craft ideas, here are a few to check out.

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 Roll Toilet Paper
  • 4 inch Stick
  • 10-inch Piece Of Twine (or string)
  • 50 Feet of Mega Bulky Yarn (that is 600 inches)
  • Scissors

Cut yarn to size needed

How To Make This Pumpkin:

Cut your yarn from the skein. You will need about 50 feet. If you are using a yarn that is not as chunky, you will need more.

If you don’t cut enough to start with, you can add to it later. Just be sure where you tie it together ends up in the middle of the roll so you do not see the knot.
Tie yarn to roll of tp
Next, tie one end of the yarn through the center of the roll. Clip off the end piece and push the knot so that it is in the middle of the roll.
Wrap yarn through and around roll of tp
Start wrapping the yarn around the roll and pulling it through the center. Keep wrapping until you have the whole roll covered. You may need to push the yarn together so there are no gaps.
Tie off end of yarn
When you have the whole roll covered, tie off the yarn to a piece in the center of the roll. Then clip it off.
Push stick into center of wrapped roll of tp
Push the stick into the center hole of the roll.
Tie twine to stick
Tie the twine around the stick. You can wrap it around the stick a few times before you tie it if you want.

Then just repeat the steps to make more pumpkins to display. You could even do a few in different colors or sizes if you wanted.

To make a different size, use a roll that is about half gone. You could also make using a roll of paper towels.

Note: We did not make ours with any type of leaf attached. However, if you want to add a pop of green to yours, you can use either felt or crafters foam to cut out a leaf shape. Then simply put a hole in the end and tie it to the twine on the stick.
