Here in New York we get lots of snow and ice in the winter, do you? If you do then I am sure you know what the winter blues or SAD is. This may not be a frugal tip, but I thought you all might be able to use this info. Winter can be a pretty time with all the white fluffy snow and the day to day pace seams to slow down. However it can also be a very hard season mentally. They days are shorter and the weather is almost always cloudy. If you or someone you know battles the winter blues, here are a few tips you can try this winter.
Tips To Help With Winter Blues / SAD
1.) Make your house/rooms bright. Now days they have some really good light bulbs out there that mimic sunlight. By brightening up your house with these bulbs, you help replace the lost sunlight. This is one of the biggest factors of winter blues or also called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
2.) Find things to do. Finding things to do in the winter is not always easy but it is very important for fighting SAD. When you are just sitting around inside on cold snowy days this is when SAD really sets in. A few ideas of things you could do would simply go to your local store such as Walmart, Target or Lowe’s and just walk laps around the inside of the store. If the weather is to bad to go out, use your treadmill if you have one. If you do not have one then just put on some music and have a dance party. Sounds crazy right? I know but it really does work. It helps to get the blood flowing and that helps to improve your mood.
3.) Take up a hobby or craft. Starting new projects are always fun and when you are submerged into something time goes by so fast. Before you know it you will have crafted your way into spring, along with pretty weather and out of the SAD blues.
These are just three tips on what I use to make it through the winter and deal with SAD. I know they don’t sound like much but I have to say they really work. How about you, do you have any pointers that you use to fight SAD that you would like to share? If so feel free to leave them in the comments. Or if you just need an outlet to talk to others you can comment as well.
